We are having a few friends over to celebrate St. Patrick's Day next weekend for cocktails and drinks.
Food: I am not going to do a full corned beef and cabbage dinner, but may do some appetizer based on corned beef (my husband would be ecstatic if I did a hash). I am looking for dishes that are based in Irish Cuisine and/or that are orange and green. I WILL be making Irish soda bread and probably some brown bread, and my Potatoes with Smoked Salmon (post from last year).
I am also thinking I might do baby lamb chops with mint and some type of clam or mussel dish. Any other thoughts? I'd love to hear them!
Drinks: I think we'll be offering an assortment of drinks made with Irish beers and/or whiskeys, and, of course, Irish Cream.

I got a mailing from Family Fun Magazine today and they had some really cute ideas: Shamrock Cupcakes, Kiwi Lime Pie, Clover Cupcakes, Pot of Gold (Butternut Squash) Soup. We're having our (now annual) St. Patrick's Day gathering next Saturday as well. I usually don't do desserts, but the Kiwi Lime Pie is really calling my name.
ReplyDeleteMy menu will include corned beef and cabbage, green veggies with dip, Regina's Salmon on Sliced Roasted New Potatoes, and mini car-bomb cupcakes (http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/01/car-bomb-cupcakes/), and I'm still thinking. I'll do a small amount of bread, we always end up with leftovers. For beverages, we'll have beer, wine, whiskey, Irish Cream, and I'm also going to do a couple of pitchers of martinis (chocolate and key lime, to be sure). Last year I did some research on green drinks and Irish drinks, and came up empty, mostly because the green drinks are either midori- or creme-de-menthe-based (like this one, http://www.app.com/article/20110310/NJLIFE07/103090343/RECIPE-year-skip-green-beer-shake-up-some-Green-Fuzz-cocktails), and I'm not a sweet person (when it comes to drinks).
