We share recipes and ask and answer questions from “How do you feed your family at night when you don’t walk in the door until 5:30 and you have a soccer game at 6 and piano lessons at 6:15 ... on opposite ends of town?” to “What’s your Thanksgiving menu this year?” to “Remember that punch you made at Christmas? What was the recipe?” So come on in to our virtual dinner group, pour yourself a glass of wine, and let’s start cooking together.
There are some places around here, cooking schools or restaurants, or even some William Sonoma stores, that offer one-time cooking classes.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was going to suggest too. CIA might have one, I know Stonewall Kitchen offers one-off classes too. You might even search personal chefs in the area through hire-a-chef, they might run some classes on a semi-regular schedule.
ReplyDeleteThe other idea I had was to give him some kind of cool gadget/gizmo and recipes/ingredients to go with it:
- ice cream maker (either electric or old-fashioned crank or the ice cream ball you can get at LLBean & REI) and some funky flavor ideas
- smoothie maker or magic bullet and some fun ideas and some protein powder or ground flaxseed
- popcorn popper and ideas for kettle corn, chocolate popcorn, caramel corn, and some mix-ins
Great ideas, Kate.
ReplyDeleteOne year, I had Susan and she wanted to start making Indian food. I got her a cookbook and ordered a lot of the more obscure, but necessary, spices from a website. She loved it, and is now quite the proficient Indian chef.:)
What did you end up giving him?
