Halloween fun food

Growing up, we always had Sloppy Joe's on Halloween night before going out Trick or Treating.

Is anyone doing anything fun for Halloween Dinner?

  1. Our tradition has become meeting at a neighbor's house before trick-or-treat for pizza. This year, Jude's best friend has moved (back) into the neighborhood, so his family will come by after trick-or-treat too, for drinks, appetizers, and desserts.

  2. Well, well. That would be me and I am tormented over what to bring to a chef's house. When the kids were small we always had a big pot of homemade spaghetti sauce with a big salad. I would be at base camp, giving out the candy, and Sean would go off with the kids (with a beverage ofcourse).

  3. A few years I did spinach pasta as witches hair, Big meatballs as eyes, a carrot as a nose and shredded cheese as teeth. Bread sticks with almonds for fingers.

  4. We are having several families over for our pre trick or treating party. Since I have to work it is hard to come up with ideas that can be made ahead or last min. I have decided to make a big pot of chili. Then we will have some Halloween choices for the kids mummy pizzas, monster toes and pumpkin bites to name a few. It has become a tradition here and I love that our friends always bring something to share.
    Happy Halloween!

  6. I'm also considering doing pigs in a blanket as Mummy Dogs... not feeling amazing inspiration!

  7. pumpkin pizzas are just pizza decorated as a jack-o-lantern, Olives work well as eyes. Green pepper as the stem. Pepperoni as a smile and nose or have small doughs and let the kids decorate their own.

  9. I tried for years and the kids didn't care for the Sloppy Joes, so we started our own tradition. "Franks N Stein" We have a hot dog and (root)beer party. It simple enough to have enough for anyone who wants to show up pre or post Trick or Treating.

  10. My kids aren't big fans of sloppy joes either, so I do a taco bar. However, this year we are going to a friend's house so all I have to worry about is bringing an adult appetizer.
