Christmas Menu
We are having Christmas with Kate (and fam), Bridge (and fam) and my parents at our house in New Hope. That will be 8 adults and 10 kids, ranging from 16 (that day, Happy Birthday, Will!) - 17 months. We thought we'd do our menu planning here, so we'd love to hear what everyone else is making and you can weigh in on what we are thinking about. Let the planning begin!

Sounds fun, wish we were there. Christmas eve we will be with my in-laws, at Brooks this year. I'll bring something. But Christmas DAy we invited my m-i-l and f-i-l here. Brooks or Kelly may come but no other kids.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of doing one of Katie's Chicken -en-croute. I don't know what else. I was thinking desert would be the chocolate fountain again.
Christmas Eve we'll be having my m-i-l Canadian Meat Pies:), Mashed Potatoes, green Greens, Salad, and maybe a butternut squash recipe. Dessert will be my m-i-l's cheesecake, my huppy asked for Pumpkin Pie and of course Irish Cream and Christmas cookies. I'll probably do a shrimp appetizer and maybe my Brie with Chutney for appetizers.
ReplyDeleteAs all Dunicans do, I have plenty of dessert thoughts, but will hold off to see what Will's Birthday request is:) I'll definately bring my Raspberry Cream Cheese Coffee cake for when we et there or the next day. As for cookies, I know I'm at least making Gingerbread Men, Chai Spice Girls, Peanut Butter Temptations and Walnut Date Balls. I had a Shrimp with Salsa dish (salad) this week, it was good, if I get the recipe we can maybe have that as an appetizer.
ReplyDeleteWhat do we feel like for an entree?
How about Dates with Bacon and Crabcakes for appetizers?
ReplyDeleteI just found out my m-i-l is doing chicken cordon blue for dinner on christmas eve. So I'm thinking of no doing Chicken en croute, but maybe salmon.
ReplyDeleteEileen, I think Salmon en croute would be wonderful. Let me know how it goes!
ReplyDeleteKate & Bridge: I am thinking a nice cut of beef, like prime rib as the entree. We'll go to the fresh pork/beef place right here -- if you guys were coming earlier you could come help us pick out our cow!;) With that, maybe a seafood first course, like either crab cakes or a seafood soup, or even mussels in a broth? (My kids probably won't eat any of those things:))
I have a fabulous Brazilian seafood stew recipe. I think I may have brought it to your house or Bridget's once before. (It's very nice in bread bowls from our chowder place, but that might be too much food to precede prime rib.)
ReplyDeleteOr, I could make crab cakes, either the Real Simple ones, or the anything-but-simple Barefoot Contessa ones.
I missed one link ...
ReplyDeleteBrazilian seafood stew—fabulous!
My family will love to have beef:) Kate, if you don't want to do Crab cakes I can. If we want both, you do the seafood stew and I'll do Bill's Crabcakes.
ReplyDeleteOh and Manny 4 and I do love Mussels!
ReplyDeleteSince we are staying home this year we are low keying it. We may spend the whole day in our pajamas!! We are having beef tenderloin with a porcini mushroom wine sauce, roasted potatoes and roasted asparagus, my grandmother's corn pudding and pumkin chiffon pie.
ReplyDeleteOur Christmas Eve menu is going to be Chicken en croute (Kate posted it in the Yes, Company Recipes post. We are doing them with carmelized onion and bleu cheese. Serving it with a mixed green salad with cranberry champagne vin. and lemon orzo.
ReplyDeleteChristmas Day will be Standing Rib Roast, Mashed potatoes (make-ahead recipe), butternut squash casserole (bridget), asparagus with gremolata and minty green beans. Of course, we'll be having yummy apps and desserts, too!:)
