Super Bowl

I just came across this dip and thought it might be a fun alternative to a standard dip for Super Bowl Sunday. What is everyone else making for the big game?

WARM BACON CHEESE SOURDOUGH DIP
1 lg round loaf of sourdough bread
1 pkg cream cheese
1 1/2 c sour cream
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2-3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
3/4 lb bacon - cooked and crumbled

Cut out a circle in top of the bread and gut the middle to make a bowl. Save inside pieces for dipping.
In a mixing bowl beat cream ch, sour cream, cheddar cheese and Worcestershire sauce. Then mix in bacon. Pour into bread bowl. Wrap in tin foil and bake in over at 325 degrees for one hour until heated through. Serve with extra bread or crackers.

  1. Mmm... yummy. I will make this!
Here is a recipe it made me think of, which could also be for St. Patty's Day.

  2. I love this reuben dip, I have one just like, mine might have sour cream and mayo as well. I make it in a crock pot. I bring it to pot lucks. I always have someone ask for the recipe. Last year I made it for a St. Patty's day book club at my house. Also served soda bread and home made irish cream. I'm hungry just thinking about it.

  3. I'm so glad you started this, Regina. I was just about to put it out there. I polled my sources from Arizona and Pittsburgh.

From Cousin John, a Cape Codder transplanted to Arizona:

    Burritos - http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Green-Chili-Burritos/Detail.aspx

    Tostadas - http://allrecipes.com/Search/Recipes.aspx?WithTerm=tostadas

Also, any dip that includes salsa and guacamole.

And from Kenny, an elementary school friend also transplanted to Arizona:
Well you are starting right by calling it a fiesta. Out here there is a lot of Southwestern flair. Unfortunately I grew up in the Northeast so it all seems the same to me. but if I had to suggest something, I would go with carne asada (grilled seasoned thin strip steak) and chicken fajitas. with a 7 layer queso dip. washed down with a prickly-pear margarita.

not to worry, Brady will be back next year. It's about time the Cardinals got a little respect.

    kenny. (I'm still a NY'r)

From my friend, Del, who grew up in the Pittsburgh area, is a great cook, and die-hard Steelers fan:
Pierogies, Primanti brother sandwiches (with meat, French fries, and cole slaw all this piled on the sandwich itself), bbq chipped ham sandwiches (homemade BBQ and really…really…really thin deli boiled ham) and of course cabbage and noodles .....

Back to me, we've been invited to a party and I'm planning to make the 2 kinds of stuffed peppers appetizers: Guy Fieri's Italian Stuffed Jalape&ntild;os ("Pittsburgh peppers") and my own chicken-stuffed cherry peppers, modified from The New Basics Cookbook ("Arizona peppers"). And, 2 appetizer meatball recipes from last Sunday's Boston Globe Magazine: Spiced Chicken and Water-Chestnut Meatballs with dipping sauce ("Pittsburgh") and Fiesta Balls With Cheese Sauce and Chimichurri ("Arizona").

    What are you making?

  4. I made this tonight. I could not get a sour dough loaf, so I put it into a casserole/baking dish instead. I am serving it with bread cubes left over from our last fondue night plus one small Italian loaf I did find. It smells so delicious! My husband, who has high BP, cholesterol etc., walked in after a long ride home and looking at the ingredients on the counter said, "Well why don't you cut to the chase and throw some arsenic in it!" :) I will thoroughly enjoy this I am sure! I added some more Worcestershire to it because I love the stuff. We caramelize our onions with it! Thanks for the recipe!

  5. Maine Mom, Worcestershire in your caramelized onions? That I think I will try. We too love the stuff, in fact we were at a neighbors for Meatloaf dinner Sat pm, and they didn't put out Worcestershire. We all commented on that when we got home:)

As an aside: One night at dinner we decided to see how many words we could make out of Worcestershire. We thought we did "well" until my editor sister and brother in law took the challenge. We had fun doing it, the kids still talk about it:)
