We share recipes and ask and answer questions from “How do you feed your family at night when you don’t walk in the door until 5:30 and you have a soccer game at 6 and piano lessons at 6:15 ... on opposite ends of town?” to “What’s your Thanksgiving menu this year?” to “Remember that punch you made at Christmas? What was the recipe?” So come on in to our virtual dinner group, pour yourself a glass of wine, and let’s start cooking together.
Once long ago on a snowy Sat the girls and I made these http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/holiday-seasonal-recipes/winter-recipes/winter-snacks-appetizers/popcorn-snowmen-676056/ they were fun. I also like popcorn on a snowy day and pull out the air popper, the girls think the popping is 1/2 the fun. Jiffy pop over the fire would work too. Remember the popper Mom had for the fireplace. Going down memory lane I'd say fondu was the way to go as well.
ReplyDeleteEileen: Do you do fondue with wine, or do you have a recipe that doesn't call for wine?
ReplyDeleteI haven't done it in awhile but I do have a recipe that does not call for wine.
ReplyDeleteSomerset Fondue
1 small onion halved
1 cup apple cider
1 tsp lemon juice
3 c Shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 Tbsp cornstarch
3 Tbsp Apple juice
Dash of white peper
Rub inside of Fondue pot with cut side of onion.
Pour in cider and lemon juice, cook over med heat until bubbly. Turn heat to low and gradually stir in cheese. Continue to heat until cheese melts,
In a small bowl blend mustard, cornstarch and apple juice. Blend into cheese and continue to cook, stirring 2 to 3 minutes or until mixture is think and creamy. Season w/white pepper. Serve with apple wedges and cubes of crusty bread. Makes about 6 servings.
I made fondue recently, there was a reason I've only made it twice in 15 years! It was ok, noone loved it! We do love Pizza fondue! Try Molasses on snow candy. I can't find the post (kate can you help?)
ReplyDeleteBridget, we did a version of a pizza fondue -- heat sauce, with capers, add in slices of fresh mozzarella until it is just starting to get a little melt-y, but still holds it's shape. Serve. Soooo delicious! Of course, we added some nice bread to sop up.:)
